The Bata Udu Drum is a cross-tribal instrument of Nigeria. The UDU is indigenous to the Igbo ethnic group, while the "Bata" has its origin among the Yoruba tribe. The traditional bata drums are a set of three double headed, hourglass shaped drums, that was brought by Nigerian slaves to the New World. The bata ensemble is made up of the lead (Lya), the middle drum (Itorleh) and the smallest (Okonkoro).
By incorporating two drum heads varying in size, what you get is a versatile percussion drum that livens up the recording studio, and visual arts infused into music.To play Beta-Udu is to experience African spiritual worship as experienced in the many cultures of the New World today in a wide variety of Afro-Cuban folkloric styles reflecting Yoruban, Congolese and Haitian dances. With two 6" drum heads and two 2 1/4" top and side holes, the Bata Udu drum measures ~14" diameter and ~16-17" tall. Comes with resting ring (material may vary).
